Meet WILLIAM M. BRYAN

“… at age 39, I finally realized what I wanted to be when I grew up!”

It’s never easy writing about oneself … so I’ll start with my parents.

This is probably the strongest influence on, and maybe best describes my practice.

In massage and bodywork, there is “a science to the art, and an art to the science …,”

Anatomy is very much ‘just science’. The pages in an anatomy book are like prints, drafts, schematics.

And yet there’s an art to understanding and applying the principles of physiology to massage and bodywork.

My father was a drafting engineer.

He loved design.

His ability to look at mechanical drawings and make sense of them ‘in his head’ was nothing shy of impressive!

Meanwhile, my mom was the artist.

Her oils, water-colors and pencil sketches helped keep her sanity while raising six boys…

I think I inherited from them … a certain balance between science and art; an appreciation for Newtonian physics, problem solving and creative solutions.

In addition to inherited leanings, there is always the ‘life experiences’ factor.

John Lennon once said “Life is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans!”

These influences are often unplanned, but necessary to the outcome.

In other words, I’ve had a lot of different jobs!

Before becoming a holistic practitioner, I was a line cook, worked on septic systems, drove for UPS, built and repaired homes, did a little stone work, and did architectural mill-work and cabinetry.

Although seemingly unrelated, each of these trades involved analyzing, troubleshooting, repairing and or/maintaining a system based on a design. I am so very thankful for all the seemingly random experiences I’ve had so far.

They not only guide the way I approach life in general, but my massage and bodywork practice in particular.

I am also thankful that I finally did find my ‘calling’.

I am delighted to share that I’ve not gone for a job interview in over twenty years, and “The Good Lord willin’-an-the-creeks-don’t rise” … I don’t plan to! The fact is, I love what I do!

I get to help people.

How cool is that?

And since I don’t ‘watch TV’, there is plenty of time for other interests and influences, which include (but are not limited to) learning to play different instruments and recording my own music, film editing, organic gardening, reading history and philosophy and studying the Bible.

Finally - I am a self-confessed and unapologetic anatomy-and-physiology geek, who is fortunate enough to have a wife as my most ardent enabler!

She, too, is a body-worker, and together we explore, study and research the science and the art of what-we-do.

We live in Lancaster County, have seven children (all combined), and eight grandchildren that call me “Grand Dude”!
